Police Investigating Selangor Pas Youth Chief On His Mass Protest Threat

Police yesterday questioned Selangor PAS Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar and seized his handphone over a Facebook posting, in which he threatened to hold a mass protest if the government proceeded with an investigation against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
According to Sukri's latest Facebook posts, he was called to appear at the Shah Alam district police headquarters yesterday morning to facilitate a probe under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMC Act).
Section 505 stipulates offences of making statements conducing to public mischief, while the other law is for improper use of network facilities or services.
"Myself and lawyer Ahmad Amzar appeared at the Shah Alam district police headquarters yesterday to facilitate police investigation into a statement I made on Facebook recently titled 'Jangan Cuba Mengganggu Tuan Guru Presiden PAS' (Do not try to harass PAS president).
"I was informed that I was being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the CMC Act, which required me to give a statement to the police," Sukri (above) said last night.
"My handphone had been confiscated by police for investigation," he said in an earlier posting on the same day.
Case investigated by Bukit Aman
Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim when contacted said the case is being investigated by Bukit Aman's Classified Crimes Investigation Unit, which falls under the Criminal Investigation Department.
Malaysiakini has reached Bukit Aman corporate communications unit for comments.
Sukri had on Nov 29 posted on Facebook his statement warning the new government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim not to drag Hadi into any police investigation.
He said that Selangor PAS Youth would hold a massive rally should such "unreasonable action" be carried out.
