Police Arrest Duo Over Sg Selangor Diesel Pollution
SUBANG JAYA: The police have detained two suspects as part of their investigations into the fuel spill at the Bestari Jaya stretch of Sungai Selangor that lead to the recent water disruption which affected the Klang Valley
"We detained two people yesterday to assist in our investigations. They have been remanded until Sunday (July 28)
"The detained are a pontoon manager and his worker. They were detained because their statements were confusing," said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin after closing an airport crisis readiness exercise at the Saujana Hotel here Thursday (July 25)
One of the men detained is known to be the person who had lodged a police report stating that anglers, who were seen fishing near the pontoon, opened the cover of a fuel tank just before the contamination happened.
"We want to get more details on the incident. They were detained at the scene (Sungai Selangor) yesterday. The suspected anglers were based on his report and we are still verifying its validity," he said.
Comm Noor Azam also said there are no elements of gangsterism found during their investigations
"I feel that there are no elements of gangsterism. It's a fishing area. There are three entrances and one of them is controlled by Rela," he said
The mishap, which occurred six kilometres away from the Sungai Selangor Phase 2 water treatment plant, forced the Sungai Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang water treatment plants to be shut down on Sunday (July 20)
This resulted in an abrupt water disruption in the Klang Valley. - Star
