Pmx Trolled For Blowing Own Trumpet By Claiming Rm100 Sara Hand Out Is Admired Worldwide

SELF-PRAISE is no praise at all … Blowing one’s own trumpet … Toot your own horn.
These are just some of the phrases used to describe Prime Minister’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s declaration that the RM100 hand-out under the SARA (Sumbangan Asas Rahmah) scheme was a resounding success and was an example to other nations.
Recall that the one-off SARA appreciation scheme announced in conjunction with Merdeka Day 2025 benefits 22 million Malaysians aged 18 onwards and involves an additional RM2 bil which brings the total Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) allocation and that of SARA in 2025 to RM15 bil – the highest in the nation’s cash assistance history.
As reported by Bernama, PMX had claimed that the SARA initiative is admired by foreign leaders who acknowledged the initiative is something difficult to replicate.

He did so in a speech at the closing ceremony of the Kedah edition of the Madani Rakyat Programme at the Baling District Council Sports Complex in Kedah during the recent weekend (Sept 6).
This little act of self-praise brought plenty of reaction in cyberspace. Former New Straits Times (NST) journalist Sa’odah Elias called it beyond “plain delusional”.
One commenter sarcastically noted that world leaders are now shaking in their shoes as citizens everywhere are demanding similar hand-outs, thanks to the example of Malaysia’s esteemed PM.

Opposition-slant Naratif Rakyat (@NaratifRakyat) also took a swipe at PMX for unashamedly blowing his own trumpet.
One commenter belittled PMX for making RM100 sound like a sum that is ten-fold, derogatorily labelling him “the stupidest PM in the country’s history”.

Well-intentioned or not, PMX’s pronouncement that made this seem like a novel and pioneering move has also been roundly ridiculed.
Former Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communications deputy director Datuk Eric See-To was quick to point out that Taiwan had announced on Sept 6 a handout of US$328 to all citizens as well as permanent residents.
Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s e-wallet hand-out of RM30 in 2019 was also highlighted to prove thew point that government cash transfers were nothing new.
There were similar comments which belittle PMX’s grandstanding in the international arena. One even doubted the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman’s claims that foreign leaders had praised such a scheme as difficult to replicate.

However, given this was a critique by a BN henchman presumably in the payroll of disgraced former PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak, there was some pointed reminders for the poster to have some perspective, chiefly “PMX didn’t siphon any money to dish out the RM100 hand-out”.

Few things to note from this so-called blowing own trumpet’s episode.
Firstly, those who live in glass houses should not be throwing stones, ie it is unbecoming of some critics to hurl brickbats given their association with a PM jailed for corruption (as in the case of See-To).
Secondly, such grandstanding by PMX to claim that the scheme was the envy of foreign countries does little to rev up his credibility as a leader.
Instead, it paints PMX as a politician that is tone deaf and, worse, prone to bouts of “syiok sendiri” (self-gratification) manoeuvres.
All said and done, this will likely do him more harm than good. – Focus Malaysia
