Lady Claims Giant May Be Misappropriating Donation For Own Use But Is This Truly The Case

IN MALAYSIA where subsidies are aplenty, we can only wonder if the poor are really benefiting from it, or perhaps the rich? But more than just subsidies, we ourselves should also be mindful of making donations.
We never know if the money we gave ends up helping the people who desperately needed help, or if it merely went to some other folks who are perhaps richer than us.
Perhaps this statement is best represented by a video where a lady highlighted a recent Jom Sedekah event at Giant, Bandar Baru Ampang. According to her, people could be seen placing items into the donation box.
But when the needy came up to take some of the items, they were told that the items are not allowed to be taken. “After the items were placed into the donation box, then it is resold again,” she said.
If what she said was indeed true, then this is a huge problem. However, would an international brand like Giant do something as petty as steal sugar and grocery items from the poor? Probably not and the comment section is about to unravel the mystery.
According to @Gamofobhia, the items were given to Giant which will later then be distributed to the needy. She added that this event was similar to the one hosted by 7 Eleven which distributes it to orphans. “Just because we are orphans doesn’t mean we can take it,” she said.

Netizen @dinz512 lent support to her statement, pointing out that perhaps, Giant would give it to the non-government organisations out there to be distributed. “Try asking the workers there,” he said to clarify the issue.
However, @harimeow_ warned that the hypermarket chain might “donate” the items the people have donated, and then claim for tax exemption later.

Then there was a sceptical @BangtanMyBangt1 who wondered if Giant would really distribute it or place them back on the shelves? On our part, we would like to give Giant the benefit of the doubt.
On another note, it is also good to point out that before making a video to make an issue viral, the lady should inquire about the donation event first before quickly running into conclusion.— Focus Malaysia
