Pm Tells Rakyat To Be Patient Don T Buy Into Kerajaangagal Campaign
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin promised that the light was now visible at the end of the tunnel and urged the people to be patient.
This was amid rising anger over the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in the country despite being in a "total lockdown" since June 1.
"The time frame of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) is only until the end of the year, so be patient.
"Don't say that the government has not given its attention (to the pandemic) and don't believe at all the 'kerajaan gagal' (failed government) campaign.
"Sorry, I don't talk politics here," he said after inspecting an aid distribution centre in Putrajaya this morning.
Muhyiddin was referring to claims that the government had mismanaged the Covid-19 pandemic.
The country recorded 7,105 new daily Covid-19 cases when the total lockdown started on June 1.
The total lockdown helped reduce the cases slightly in the initial stages but had since lost steam as new cases hit a record high of 11,618 yesterday.
According to the NRP, the number of new daily Covid-19 cases should be brought down to under 4,000 by this or next month under Phase 2.
It should then be reduced to under 2,000 by September or October under Phase 3 and then to under 500 by November or December under Phase 4.
The vaccination rate should also be at 10 percent, 40 percent and 60 percent respectively for Phases 2 to 3.
As of yesterday, 15.74 percent of the country's adult population have received at least two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Muhyiddin said he was confident the country can win the war against Covid-19 if government leaders, the private sector, NGOs and the people cooperate.
At the aid centre, some 420,000 packages of staple food worth around RM50 each were prepared, which will benefit 1.68 million recipients.
The programme is managed by the Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.
Muhyiddin said the aid involved an allocation of RM5 million from the Prime Minister’s Department and RM16 million from the private sector.
Each package contains food items including rice, salt and sugar, flour, vermicelli, soy sauce, canned sardines, biscuits and coffee.
Those who need food aid can apply through Talian Kasih at 15999. - Mkini
