Pm Oversees Vaccination Preparations Ahead Of Immunisation Rollout
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today observed preparations made by the National Cancer Institute (IKN) here ahead of the implementation of the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, which begins on Wednesday (Feb 24). - Bernama picKUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today paid a visit to the National Cancer Institute (IKN), to review the facility's preparations ahead of the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme this Wednesday.
The IKN is one of 54 vaccine storage centres (VSC), which would supply Covid-19 vaccines on a scheduled basis to four identified vaccination centres in Putrajaya.
During the visit, Muhyiddin was briefed on the storage and management of the Covid-19 vaccine at the VSC, and the vaccination process.
The Prime Minister's Office in a statement today said, also present were Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba, and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Khairy is also the coordinating minister for the country's immunisation campaign.
"In total, there are 54 VSC and 605 vaccination centres nationwide. Vaccines that have been received by the IKN will be utilised in the first phase for 7,020 health and non-health personnel," the PMO said.
The second phase will be conducted between April and August this year for senior citizens aged 60 and above and high-risk groups.
The third phase, for those aged 18 and above, will start in May this year and is expected to be completed by February next year.
The government plans to vaccinate at least 80 per cent of the population or around 26.6 million people in the country's biggest vaccination drive ever. - NST
