Pm Accusation Against Muhyiddin Fahmi Yet To Get Mcmc Report
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he has yet to receive a report from the MCMC on its investigation into Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s claim that Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin had defended fuel subsidies for foreigners.
“I have not received (the report from MCMC),” Fahmi said briefly when Malaysiakini asked him for an update on the case during a press conference in Putrajaya earlier today.
When pressed further on when he expects to receive a full report from the agency, the minister told Malaysiakini, “You have to refer to MCMC”, and moved on to take questions from other reporters.
For the record, it has been nearly a month since MCMC announced its probe into the matter.
MCMC is a statutory body under the Communications Ministry and is responsible for regulating the country’s communications and multimedia industries, including telecommunications, broadcast, internet, and postal.
During the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 5, Anwar claimed that Muhyiddin had questioned the government’s decision not to provide petrol subsidies to foreigners.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (left) and former prime minister Muhyiddin YassinMuhyiddin countered that he never made such a statement and accused Anwar of failing to verify the claim properly.
Anwar then told MCMC to investigate whether Muhyiddin had made the statement.
The internet regulator reportedly summoned the former prime minister on Aug 7 to provide a statement as a witness, not as a suspect.
“The investigation involves the contents of a TikTok account linking him to an allegation about targeted RON95 subsidies,” the MCMC had said.
On Aug 14, the prime minister told the Dewan Rakyat that he was still waiting for the MCMC to determine whether the source of information he cited was false.
Anwar also claimed that he had three sources of information, of which one has been verified as false.
The country’s top executive also indicated his willingness to apologise to Muhyiddin if the information he cited is proven wrong.
To date, MCMC has yet to issue any further statement, including when queried by Malaysiakini.
Malaysiakini has been reaching out to the MCMC for the past two weeks to get an update on the probe. - Mkini
