A DAP MP has challenged Pejuang to prove that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has lost the rakyat’s confidence by getting its allies to move a motion of no confidence in Parliament.
This followed Pejuang information chief Rafique Rashid Ali’s statement earlier today that Anwar was afraid of the rakyat’s uprising against his government’s incompetence.
Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan said he believed the accusation was only an attempt by the opposition to mask its failure to amass the people’s support to topple the government through their “Himpunan Turun Anwar” rally.
“Pejuang itself cannot move a motion of no confidence against the prime minister because it does not have any MPs.
“But if Pejuang really wants to prove that Anwar has lost the (people’s) support, they can ask their allies in Perikatan Nasional to propose the motion, as the opposition has been talking about lately.
“If not, then it means all these are just empty talk,” the DAP central executive committee member said.
Confused with opposition
This morning, Rafique criticised the prime minister’s order for law enforcement agencies to take strong action against those who incite hatred in the country.
He questioned the timing and logic behind Anwar’s instruction and claimed that the prime minister was afraid of a supposed uprising against his leadership.
Rafique Rashid AliIn response to this, Syahredzan said he was puzzled as to why Rafique was against the move.
According to him, Pejuang should have been supportive of what Anwar was trying to do, as the prime minister had made it clear that it was to prevent public unrest.
“Political parties should be united when it comes to issues that involve public order and peace, and the rakyat’s unity.
“But unfortunately, because of their narrow political minds, parties like Pejuang had instead turned the prime minister’s speech into political ammunition,” Syahredzan said. - Mkini
