Please Drop Charges Against Betty She Is Not Rosmah 2 0 Pleads Father In Law
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang is pleading with Putrajaya and the authorities for them to drop the money-laundering charges against his daughter-in-law Betty Chew
The appeal addressed to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Attorney-General Idrus Harun and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), called on them to drop the charges to maintain "some decency and honour" in public life
"There must be some decency and honour in national life by not involving innocent family members
"Let us not destroy Lim Guan Eng’s family and target his family members just to get at the main target. Going for Guan Eng’s wife or his children must stop," he said in a statement
Chew will be charged at the Butterworth Sessions Court on Tuesday under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities (Amla) Act
This is over her involvement in Excel Property Management and Consultancy Sdn Bhd
Previously, in 2017, allegations were made that Chew was a director of Excel Property Management and Consultancy, together with businessperson Phang Li Koon
Phang had previously been charged and acquitted over Guan Eng's bungalow scandal
Kit Siang said he had known Chew for three decades, and that a search of her house would not turn up a treasure trove of luxury goods such as handbags and jewellery found when police raided properties linked to Najib Abdul Razak and Rosmah Mansor
"Why, then, is there an attempt to paint Betty Chew as the second Rosmah Mansor of Malaysia?" he asked
Kit Siang said learning about his daughter in-law's arrest yesterday was shocking
"This is not the Betty that I know for three decades. Her only fault was being a loving and loyal wife and mother of four great kids," he said
Besides Chew, Guan Eng is also facing two charges brought by the MACC in court on Monday and Tuesday
The former finance minister yesterday claimed trial to a charge of soliciting a bribe concerning the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court. He has since been released on bail
Kit Siang said the charges against his son were not surprising and was an attempt to break the latter's spirits. - Mkini
