Plane Crash In Ipoh Flight Instructor Killed

 A flight instructor was killed while another person was injured in a plane crash in Ipoh, Perak, this evening.
According to information furnished by the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, the 8pm incident saw a light aircraft crash at Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said the Piper 28-161 aircraft was on a night training flight when the incident occurred.
Malaysiakini learned that the injured victim was rushed to the hospital.
“We received a call at 8.10pm today and dispatched rescuers from the Ipoh fire and rescue station to the scene,” read a statement by the fire department.
“Upon arrival, the team found that a light aircraft had crashed at the location and there were two victims.
“One of them was killed while the other injured.”
The department has confirmed with Malaysiakini that the deceased was flight instructor Fajim Juffa Mohd Mustafa Kamal, 52, a retired Royal Malaysia Air Force lieutenant colonel, while the injured victim is Muhammad Din Fikri, 62.
The CAAM in a statement said they received a mayday call from the aircraft at 8.07pm.

“One pilot succumbed to injuries while the other pilot suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving medical assistance.
“The safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia in accordance with Part XXVI Civil Aviation Regulations 2016," said CAAM CEO Chester Voo.
According to publicly available information, the aircraft was registered to Bats Aviation Sdn Bhd, which operates a flight training centre out of the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong in a statement said he has instructed the CAAM and AAIB to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident as soon as possible.
“CAAM will also be issuing a press release once more details can be gathered.
“I understand that CAAM's Emergency Operations Centre was activated at 9pm tonight as soon as it was learnt that two pilots were involved in the incident," he said on Facebook. - Mkini
