Pkr Youth Slams Akmal Over 14 14 Malacca Strategy Criticism
PKR Youth slammed Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh for criticising DAP’s proposal for BN and Pakatan Harapan to each contest half of the 28 state seats in Malacca.
ADSPKR Youth communications director Haziq Azfar Ishak commented on Akmal’s suggested formula of both coalitions contesting in the same constituencies, saying that BN would not have won any extra seats if it had been used in the 2022 six-state election.
Seat distributions in Selangor and Penang would not have favoured BN if the coalition were to be judged on its previous election performance, Haziq (above, left) said in a statement today.
“Akmal’s statement also reflects a refusal to take into account current performance, including the results after the Malacca polls, the strength of the machinery, the acceptance of the local people, and the potential for victory in determining the seat distribution… important factors that should be the basis for negotiations.
“This kind of harsh and domineering approach does not add value to any political discussion, let alone in efforts to build consensus in the unity government,” he added.
Akmal’s mockery
On Thursday (May 8), Akmal rebuffed DAP’s proposal by saying that BN will not hand over its seats to the party.

“If you want them, then we’ll contest in the same constituencies. Simple as that,” the Malacca state exco member said.
This came after China Press reported that nine DAP branches in Malacca have unanimously passed a resolution supporting the so-called “14+14” strategy for the next state election – a move that, if followed through, means BN would have to cede some of the seats it already holds.
The 2021 Malacca election largely saw three-cornered fights between BN, Harapan, and Perikatan Nasional, despite both BN and PN being part of the ruling coalition at the time at the federal level.
BN emerged victorious by garnering 21 seats, compared to five seats by Harapan, and two by PN.
During the federal election in 2022, Harapan won three of the six parliamentary seats in Malacca, while PN won the other three. BN lost all parliamentary seats in the state.
ADSUnanimous nod
In a separate statement, DAP’s branch in Taman Makmur, Masjid Tanah, Malacca, said its members unanimously approved a motion to support the 14+14 formula.

“In the same motion, the Taman Makmur branch also expressed full support for the candidates from the unity government who will be contesting in the state seat under the Masjid Tanah (parliamentary constituency),” it said.
It cited the speaker for the branch’s annual general meeting, Kota Laksamana assemblyperson Low Chee Leong, as saying that the motion would be tabled in the upcoming Malacca DAP committee meeting.
It added that branch chairperson Lim Kim Fok, who brought the motion, said the formula is meant to increase the chances of victory for the Malacca coalition government and highlight the spirit of cooperation between BN and Harapan.
