Pkr Youth Criticises Dr Akmal S Stance Against Dap S Call For Equal Seat Allocation In Melaka

ANGKATAN Muda Keadilan (AMK), the youth wing of PKR, has criticised UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh for declaring that BN will not give up any of its previously won seats to PH in the upcoming Melaka state election.
AMK Communications Director Haziq Azfar Ishak argued that if Akmal’s “formula” of only contesting for the seats they already won were applied consistently, BN won’t deserved the significantly larger seat allocation it received in the recent Selangor state election comparative to its poor performance in the 14th General Election (GE14).
He further pointed out that under Akmal’s logic, BN wouldn’t have received even a single seat in Selangor or Penang in the last election, since the party failed to win any parliamentary seats in those states during GE15.
The political tension in Melaka is intensifying ahead of the expected state election by November next year.
UMNO has firmly rejected the idea of equally dividing state assembly seats (14 each) with PH despite both coalitions forming the Unity Government at the federal level.
BN’s strong stance suggests a desire to maintain dominance in the state, where it currently holds 21 out of 28 seats.
The refusal to concede any previously won seats underscores deeper distrust and unresolved friction between coalition partners, especially at the state level.
The idea of a 14-14 seat split, proposed by nine local DAP branches, highlights grassroots support for broader cooperation to ensure stability and policy continuity.
However, BN sees this as opportunistic, particularly since PH had been unwilling to do the same in the past.
This scenario may lead to multi-cornered fights in the next election if consensus isn’t reached, risking the Unity Government’s strength and giving room for PN to gain ground.
“BN will never give them to PH. If they still want to contest, then we’ll compete in the same constituencies, simple as that,” said UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
“To just hand them over to you? Not a chance. Go ahead and keep dreaming,” he reportedly said. — Focus Malaysia
