PETALING JAYA: Sabah PKR is to file a police report over allegations that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is trying to protect several Sabah assemblymen implicated in an alleged bribery scandal.
Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin said false accusations of an alleged cover-up were being made on several TikTok and Facebook accounts, The Borneo Post reported.
He said these accounts also claimed that Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, was trying to protect these assemblymen to help PH negotiate for more seats for the next Sabah state elections.
“These allegations are baseless and maliciously intended to tarnish the reputation of the prime minister, who is well known for his stance against corruption and abuse of power,” said Razeef.
He urged all parties to let the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe the case, expressing confidence that Anwar would not interfere with the investigation.
The MACC investigation is over mineral project licences, with links to a businessman said to have had dealings with several Sabah assemblymen.
Police and MACC reports have been filed against former Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd CEO Jontih Enggihon, accusing him of colluding with a witness believed to be behind several videos alleging corruption involving the assemblymen.
Jontih has denied the allegations, saying the claim that he acted as a middleman between the whistleblower and assemblymen was a total lie.
MACC has said a request for immunity by the witness was rejected as he may be involved in the alleged corruption. - FMT
