PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh will officiate the opening ceremony for the national congress of the party’s youth and women’s wings tomorrow.
This came after the wings failed to coax party deputy president Rafizi Ramli to reconsider his decision to snub the event.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Fuziah confirmed that she had accepted the wings' invitation earlier today.
Fuziah said PKR Youth and Women leaders had asked her to take Rafizi's place after the economy minister declined their invitation earlier.
ADS"However, I had advised them then to try to get the deputy president to launch their congress. Because it is a party tradition.
"I told them to try their best, and they did. But the result was not forthcoming.
"So, I decided to accept their invitation because we do not want to demoralise them," she added.
Neutral party
The wings wanted Fuziah to fill in for Rafizi to avoid being seen as aligned with any party leader, she shared.
The secretary-general is not contesting any position in the party central leadership election, which will be held in two days.
Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar will go head-to-head for the PKR deputy president post on May 23On the raging battle for the PKR deputy presidency between Rafizi and Nurul Izzah Anwar, Fuziah expressed optimism that party members would consolidate after the polls are concluded.
"They may be polarised at the moment, but I believe that all of them love the party and they want what's best for the party.
"I believe we will consolidate. We will consolidate as soon as possible and move forward," she said. - Mkini
