(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy information chief Razeef Rakimin has defended the party’s use of blockchain technology in its party elections, saying that while technical errors may have occurred, claims of vote manipulation or sabotage are unfounded
The Tuaran PKR division chief said while the system might have faced some “minor technical errors”, blockchain technology was among the most secure in the world.
Razeef also said members had to update their personal information ahead of this year’s polls, which ensured that only active members were able to vote.
“Of course there will be some shortcomings as it’s a new system. However, for a system that has strong security like blockchain, it is almost impossible to be breached,” he said in a statement.
However, he acknowledged that there were some issues throughout the voting process, such as the delays in announcing the results – sometimes by a day.
He also admitted that there were concerns over some “inconsistent” results, especially for division chiefs and their deputies.
“For example, in Team A, the division chief candidate received 700 votes, while the deputy and committee members got between 1,400 and 1,600 votes. But for Team B, the division chief received 1,500 votes while the deputy and others only received between 600 and 800 votes,” he said.
He said such discrepancies contributed to allegations of manipulation, especially as several prominent figures – including ministers, deputy ministers, MPs and state assemblymen – lost their contests.
Razeef said the party’s election results would not be finalised until they are confirmed by the central leadership council.
Last week, PKR’s Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail urged the party to postpone the remainder of its division elections following alleged “irregularities” in the polling process, which saw several prominent incumbent division leaders knocked out.
PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party’s central leadership council would convene a meeting tomorrow. - FMT
