Ph May Sack Amanah If It Lets Pejuang Use Logo Warns Pro Anwar Group

(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: A pro-Anwar Ibrahim group said Pakatan Harapan (PH) may sever ties with Amanah if it allows Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang to contest under the party’s banner in the next general election (GE15).
“Amanah risks losing the seats it is vying for if it allows unfamiliar faces to contest under its logo,” Otai Reformis secretary Abdul Razak Ismail told FMT.
“We are puzzled over why Amanah is willing to gamble its future by allowing Mahathir and other leaders in Pejuang to use its party as a platform.”
Earlier, Pejuang pro tem deputy president Marzuki Yahya said the party may consider contesting in GE15 using the Amanah logo if it continued to face problems in its application for registration.
Amanah leaders had also confirmed that a proposal was brought up to the party, but said no official discussions had taken place yet.
Razak said the idea of Pejuang candidates using the Amanah logo in the elections would be detrimental to PH, as the coalition could lose up to 20 seats it won previously.
For Amanah to remain relevant, he said, the party should focus on working together with its PH partners to strengthen its machinery and take over the seats won by PAS in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
Amanah won 11 seats in GE14 by contesting under the PKR logo as a PH partner.
Meanwhile, Otai Reformis treasurer Ronnie Liu said if Amanah accepted the Pejuang proposal, it would erode the confidence of PH’s supporters.
“If Amanah allows Pejuang to use its logo, it means PH is not united. It will adversely affect both Amanah and PH,” said the Sungai Pelek assemblyman.
Idris Ahmad, the Otai Reformis chairman and Ijok assemblyman, said Amanah must focus on strengthening PH without cooperating with Mahathir’s party.
“There is no need for Pejuang, they are already weak and finding avenues to cling on to. Be careful with their plans, don’t trust Mahathir,” he said. - FMT
