Perlis Mb Loss In Arau Pas Polls A Chance For Self Reflection
Perlis Menteri Besar Shukri Ramli has described his defeat in the race for Arau PAS division chief as an opportunity for self-reflection, amid growing internal shifts ahead of the 16th general election.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Shukri – who is also Perlis PAS commissioner – expressed hope that the new leadership lineup will continue to strengthen the party and support the Perikatan Nasional state government.
“On a personal note, I would like to express my gratitude to all delegates and members who were present, as their attendance and speeches have given me much awareness.
“This is a space for self-reflection for me, to balance my responsibilities as a government leader and a member of the party we have built together,” he said.
Shukri (above) also urged the new leadership in Arau PAS to bolster the party’s ranks and help reinforce the state administration.
“I sincerely hope the new leadership of the Arau PAS division will continue to reinforce our struggle and help strengthen the PN government in Perlis, especially with GE16 approaching,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Arau PAS would remain strong, particularly with the presence of Arau MP Shahidan Kassim.
“Arau will certainly remain strong with solid leadership, further supported by our eminent leader, Shahidan Kassim, the formidable Arau MP who never tires in driving this struggle forward.
“May Allah continue to bless all our efforts.”
Other losses
Shukri was defeated by incumbent Solahudin Azmi, who was re-elected by delegates to lead the Arau division for the 2025-2027 term.
A Perlis PAS leader who declined to be named confirmed the outcome.

ADS“Yes, the menteri besar lost in the Arau PAS division election. That’s all I can share,” the source told Malaysiakini.
Also losing their posts were Shukri’s allies – state assembly speaker Russele Eizan and state executive councillor Razali Saad.
Russele, who is also PN Perlis vice-chairperson II, was defeated by Guar Sanji assemblyperson Ridzuan Hashim in the race for deputy division chief.Razali lost his bid to retain the vice-chief post to Nur Yusairy Mansor.
The Arau PAS election reportedly involved over 200 delegates from 60 branches. The election for Padang Besar will take place tomorrow, followed by Kangar on June 28.

PAS is scheduled to hold its national leadership polls during the party’s 71st Muktamar in Alor Setar, Kedah, from Sept 11 to 16.
Controversy
Shukri previously courted controversy following the arrest of his son Syafeeq, who was charged with submitting false claims totalling over RM19,000.
On May 23 last year, Syafeeq was charged at the Kangar Sessions Court in connection with a beverage supply project for the Perlis ruler at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital.
The issue was reportedly raised by Perlis delegates at last year’s muktamar, with claims that it had negatively impacted the party’s image. - Mkini
