Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said PN was merely creating ‘propaganda’.PUTRAJAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claims that some Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen in Pahang will quit the coalition to support Barisan Nasional (BN).
He was commenting on Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s remarks in a speech in Felda Chemomoi on Tuesday, claiming that several BN assemblymen would defect to PN if the coalition wins the Pelangai state by-election on Oct 7.
“We also have our own intel showing that actually some of them (PN assemblymen) would be joining us, so their strategy is to create propaganda as if it’s those from our side who are joining them.
“So, we hope the four (assemblymen) are actually from PN,” he told the media here.
Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail earlier denied Muhyiddin’s allegations, saying that BN assemblymen had expressed loyalty to the coalition and would never abandon it to join PN.
He said Muhyiddin’s claims were aimed at swaying voters ahead of the Pelangai by-election.
Pahang has yet to implement the anti-party hopping law since it came into force at federal level in October last year.
The Pahang assembly has a total of 42 seats. BN and Pakatan Harapan hold 16 seats and eight seats respectively, while PN has 17.
The Pelangai state seat by-election is being held following the death of Umno assemblyman and Pahang exco member Johari Harun in the plane crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam, Selangor, on Aug 17. - FMT
