Perak Mb No Plans To Sell Maps
IPOH: The Perak government has no plans to sell the Movie Animation Park Studio (MAPS), says Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic)
Ahmad Faizal was responding to Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Aulong) who suggested that the government should sell the state-owned theme park to private companies during today’s assembly sitting
“I welcome all suggestions from state assembly members, but I believe he did not receive the latest information about MAPS. The theme park is doing well. They have received an increasing number of visitors coming in," said Ahmad Faizal
He added that the park could become the main attraction in Perak if the park's management continues to promote the park and also said that the state might be interested to partner with private companies but does not have any plans to close the park at any moment
“Since the park is doing well, we have no plans to close it for now. However, drastic measures will be considered if needed,” said Ahmad Faizal at a press conference on Monday (Dec 3)
Earlier, state DAP chairman Nga had said the state government should consider selling the loss-making MAPS theme park to private investors
Nga said the theme park should be sold using an open tender system to companies involved in this business
“MAPS, set up under the Perak Corporation Berhad (PCB) by the previous Barisan Nasional government, has suffered RM474mil in losses even before its official opening
“The state government should not be running a business, and to prevent further losses, it is best the theme park is sold,” he told a press conference on the sidelines of the state assembly sitting here on Monday.- Star
