Perak Mb Crisis A Local Issue Not National Problem Says Annuar

Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa hoped the crisis could be resolved in the spirit of Perikatan Nasional.KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Annuar Musa today said the Perak menteri besar crisis, following the ouster of Ahmad Faizal Azumu yesterday, was expected.
He said it was not a national issue but rather a local one.
Annuar said the decision by the party’s assemblymen to vote against Faizal was not formally discussed beforehand with Umno and the BN coalition, and that it had been decided among the state’s representatives themselves.
“I hope the situation can be resolved well so it won’t cause instability or division, and hope that it can be managed together in the spirit of Perikatan Nasional,” he said at a press conference at the Kerinchi PPR today.
The Perak government collapsed after Faizal, who is also the PPBM deputy president, lost a vote of confidence in the state assembly yesterday.
A total of 48 state assembly members had voted against him, with only 10 votes in support and one spoilt vote.
According to Annuar, Umno president Zahid Hamidi had gone down to Perak for a meeting with the state’s Umno leadership to get their feedback and updates on the party’s position in the state.
“We are carrying out consultations,” he said.
Commenting on PAS’ statement that it will not be part of the new Perak government, Annuar said their response was not out of the ordinary.
“It does not matter, each party would give its own initial reaction as the issue just happened yesterday and the statement was also issued yesterday.
“Following this, the party leaders must sit together to manage the situation.
“I believe the PN leadership will sit down and discuss it,” he said. - FMT
