Penang Ready To Go To Court Over Sanusi S Claim Says Chow
Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said he will see Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor in court if he was serious about his claim.GEORGE TOWN: Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow says the state government is ready to go to court over Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor’s repeated claim that Penang belongs to Kedah.
Chow said although Sanusi claimed to be joking, the state was prepared to resolve any issue in court.
“If he’s very serious, (I’ll) see him in court.”
Yesterday, after signing a land and maritime boundary agreement between Kedah and Perlis, Sanusi once again claimed that Kedah owned Penang.
“From what I know, Penang is Kedah’s. So, there is no such thing as the Kedah-Penang border,” the PAS leader was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying.
Chow said although Sanusi said he was “just joking” every time he made a claim about Penang, it appeared the menteri besar was really serious about the matter.
“We are hearing (Sanusi) seriously, too.
“Even before this, we have told him: ‘Let’s meet in court.’ This is especially in matters of payment for water and making his claim for Penang island and Seberang Perai.
“He has often joked but has never taken any legal action over the claims he has made so far.
“I don’t dare advise him. He is, after all, the most honourable menteri besar. The rakyat and voters should advise him,” he said.
Earlier, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told Sanusi to address bread-and-butter issues affecting Kedahans rather than making spurious claims about Penang.
He said Sanusi should focus on resolving disruptions in the state’s water supply and help the federal government tackle poverty in Kedah. - FMT
