Penang Dap No Rally At Court For Guan Eng Next Week

Penang DAP has advised members to not hold any rallies when party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng faces two court cases next week
Police have warned that it will issue compounds to those who gather outside the Butterworth Sessions Court on Aug 10 and 11
In a statement today, state DAP publicity secretary Steven Sim said the party would adhere to the police’s instructions
“Only state DAP senior leaders, central party leaders and several supporting staff will be present at court on the days
“The secretariat will ensure the standard operating procedure is strictly adhered to
“I hope members, supporters and the public will understand the situation and offer us your full cooperation,” he said, adding that interested parties will be able to keep up with what happens by watching the livestream on Penang DAP’s Facebook page
Elaborating, Sim hoped police would ensure that incidents of “harassment and provocation by irresponsible parties” allegedly seen when Lim was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Special Corruption Court yesterday, would not be allowed to happen again
Aside from Lim, his wife Betty Chew is also expected to be charged at the Butterworth Sessions Court next Tuesday (Aug 11)
The Bagan MP will next be charged in connection with the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel project and another unspecified case
The police’s warning against crowds comes after thousands came out in support of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak during the July 28 verdict of his RM42 million SRC International trial
Little social distancing was observed at the rally, and many were seen without face masks. They eventually dispersed after reminders from the police
The rally ignited concerns about possible new Covid-19 clusters. - Mkini
