Peja Trying To Rewrite History By Denying Sheraton Move Blaming Dap
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang expressed shock after Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu blamed DAP for the ouster of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020.
“Faizal is rewriting recent history where he not only denied the Sheraton Move political conspiracy in February 2020, but concocted a tale blaming DAP for wanting to topple Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
“This is the first time anybody has implicated the DAP in an effort to ‘topple’ Mahathir as prime minister - which led to the Sheraton Move political conspiracy.
“I challenge Faizal to cite any instance in the 39 months, between February 2020 and now, where DAP was alleged to be involved in it,” he said in a statement.
He also challenged the former Perak menteri besar, who is known as Peja, to reveal the names of the DAP leaders involved in the so-called plot to remove Mahathir.
In an interview, Faizal claimed that the Sheraton Move was reported wrongly and that the meeting occurred because “there was some movement by DAP leaders to topple Tun (Mahathir) as prime minister, despite Tun mentioning many times that he would leave after Apec.”
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad“But there were moves to topple him then, so we called our friends saying, ‘Look, if there is a move to topple the prime minister, Umno should come in and support him as the government should stay’. That was what the meeting was about,” claimed Faizal.
It should be noted at that particular time, Mahathir was attempting to form an all-party unity government under his leadership.
The plan ran contrary to his promise to hand over the premiership to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
PN still harping on divisive politics
Taking Faizal to task, Lim said the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition was not responding to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s numerous calls for political stability and national unity among the different races and religions in the country.
“What is worse is the continued reliance of PN leaders on lies, falsehoods, and false news to further their political ends
“This comes at the expense of polarising race and religious relations, undermining political stability, and inhibiting economic recovery,” the former MP added.
Lim also took issue with Faizal’s call for Anwar to not be preoccupied with eradicating corruption but to focus on improving the standard of living for Malaysians.
“This shows the siege mentality of PN leaders who fear getting arrested and charged with corruption.
“Faizal will be politically correct if he demands that the people’s economic problems are resolved while the anti-corruption drive continues, but he chose otherwise,” said Lim. - Mkini
