Patriot Condemns Pm Calls Parliament Blockade An Offensive Injustice
The Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) has condemned Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s government over the incident this morning where opposition MPs were denied entry to the Parliament by the police.
Its president Mohd Arshad Raji released a statement shortly after more than one hundred opposition MPs were seen marching from Dataran Merdeka to the Parliament’s gate in protest of the Parliament’s suspension before they were met with heavy police presence blocking their way.
“Patriot views the developments this morning with grave and deep concern.
“We as citizens who fought for the freedom and sovereignty of our beloved nation, Malaysia, defending king and country with our lives and limbs, view the sealing off of the Parliament this morning as a direct attack on the rules-based democratic order that we have fought hard to win, safeguard and cherish,” said the retired general.
He said the opposition bloc was protesting their rights that were stripped away by what he called “the very government that Malaysians believe committed treason against our sovereign ruler, His Majesty the Agong.
Arshad called upon the prime minister to cease further weakening the country’s parliamentary democracy and its rights, as well as the dignity and honour of the sovereign institutions and the king.
“Shutting the gates and the road to Parliament and denying our legally elected parliamentarians access to their legitimate office is offensive injustice.
“Ordering a heavy-handed presence of security cordon makes a threat and mockery of democracy and the rule of law,” Arshad added.
He also warned Muhyiddin’s government to stop “trampling upon the nation’s democratic history”, and asked the government to immediately restore and uphold the Federal Constitution as well as the constitutional monarchy. - Mkini
