Passport Services In 3 Immigration Offices Go Fully Online On June 1
The passport application services at three Immigration Department offices in Klang Valley will go fully online on June 1 in a bid to reduce congestion, said Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Saifuddin said the Immigration Department offices in Kajang, Kelana Jaya and Wangsa Maju were chosen as they record a high issuance of passports.
“The branches were also selected due to 100 percent Internet penetration as well as 90 percent 5G internet connection.
“These Immigration Department branches will receive online passport renewal applications from those aged 13 and above, including senior citizens aged over 60,” he explained.
However, these three offices would accept walk-in applications for six categories - children aged 12 and below, senior citizens aged 60 and above, pilgrims, students aged 21 and below (who accepted offers to study abroad), persons with disabilities as well as family members accompanying child applicants aged 12 and below.
He added that the Immigration Department will introduce the MyOnline Passport service for first-time applications who are aged 18 and above, including senior citizens aged over 60.
Previously, it was reported that the continuous problem of long lines at Immigration Department counters had yet to be resolved, despite having introduced the online appointment registration system.
Following that, a large number of Malaysians’ online passport applications were not approved the first time due to various “technical issues”, including fingerprint data problems, photographs not meeting the department's requirements or dubious applications.

Meanwhile, he said the Immigration Department will enforce three new shift hours to handle the entry and exit of visitors during peak periods at Johor’s Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar entry points.
The three new shifts are from 9am to 6pm; 4pm to 12am and 12am to 9am and will be enforced this Sunday, he said.
Previously, the shifts were from 7am to 4pm; 3pm to 11pm and 11pm to 8am.
He added the Immigration Department conducted a dry run recently and it has shown to be effective in reducing congestion during rush hours.
“Other measures also include constructing more auto gates, as well as the streamlining of two counters to one which means passport checks and vehicle entry payment into the country would be done at one single counter.
“This means travellers entering the country would only need to make one stop instead of two. This would cut down the procedures by three to five seconds per vehicle.” - Mkini
