Pas Will Stick With Muafakat And Defend Pn Says Hadi
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang stressed that the party would stick with Muafakat Nasional while at the same time defending the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
The Marang MP said that PAS cannot confine itself to working with Umno alone as the party wants to break the practice of racially-based politics which is divisive.
According to Hadi, Umno, PAS and Bersatu as three major political parties in the country have worked together to unite the Malaysian community that is dominated by Malay-Muslims in MN.
"If it is only joined by PAS and Umno, the group would not be sufficient.
"And in order to bring in other parties and races in our multicultural society, PAS joined the initiative to form PN so that we can break the practice of 'asabiyah' or racial fanaticism, which is something that PAS fights against," Hadi said in his column 'Minda Presiden' on PAS' news website.
On Dec 30, the PAS Ulama Council arrived at a decision that stressed the importance for PAS to strengthen both MN and PN pacts.
PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin had said that it was important to unite the political powers among Muslims for the sake of religion and the country.
In his writing, Hadi also said that PN is an innovation in a bigger context.
"Thus, PAS cannot be confined to Umno alone. We have started a move by forming a government in PN, which is in its early stage.
"Thus, the unity that we have now should never be broken for something that has nothing to do with our 'islah' duty (responsibility to bring improvement).
"Among the reasons such as personal issues or fighting for positions in the cabinet and government-linked companies are just side factors, which PAS had been very lenient about," he said. - Mkini
