Pas Spiritual Leader Hails Jihad Donation For Siti Mastura
PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin stated that the settlement of damages within the stipulated period ensured that Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad was not declared bankrupt, thereby allowing her to retain her parliamentary seat.
He said the ‘jihad donation’ campaign initiated by PAS to assist Siti Mastura in the defamation lawsuit filed by three DAP leaders has symbolically succeeded in preserving the party’s parliamentary seat.
“Alhamdulillah, everything is resolved. She won’t be declared bankrupt as the payment was made on time. A by-election is also unnecessary since the court’s order was fulfilled. If a PRK were held, it would certainly incur higher costs,” he told Sinar Harian.
“She couldn’t pay the amount on her own, so collective contributions were needed to meet the target. This has been the practice and ethos of PAS from the past until now. The unity within the party brings benefits, even if viewed negatively by some quarters. However, this practice thrives in PAS.”
Hashim added that although the case is still under appeal, the party remains committed to managing the payment with sincerity.
The Georgetown High Court in December ruled in favour of the DAP trio’s defamation suit against Siti Mastura.
The defamation case was over Siti Mastura’s claims linking former DAP stalwart Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok to the late Communist Party of Malaya supremo Chin Peng.
According to the DAP leaders’ counsel Sankara Nair, Judge Quay Chew Soon ordered Siti Mastura to pay a total of RM750,000 in damages to the DAP trio, specifically RM300,000 to Kit Siang, RM250,000 to Guan Eng and RM200,000 to Kok. — Focus Malaysia
