Pas Question Of Disobeying Sultan Of Perak Does Not Arise

The Islamic party’s deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. - NSTP/LUQMAN HAKIM ZUBIRKUALA LUMPUR: The question of whether Pas disobeyed (derhaka) the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, in regards to the political crisis in the state does not arise.
The Islamic party's deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this is because a political crisis should be viewed in its entirety and not just merely on a particular constituent part, in reaching an evaluation.
He said in such a situation, it is not surprising that misunderstandings and misinformation occur and of course, some parties are interested in taking advantage of the situation.
"So we are confident that in managing the (political) crisis which took place, it requires its own space and (was resolved in) a very short time.
"Alhamdulillah, this crisis did not take long.
"Now is the time to look ahead to continue the development of the state, look after the welfare of the people and strengthen political consensus," Tuan Ibrahim said in a Facebook posting.
Netizens posting on social media platforms have accused Pas of disobeying (derhaka) the Perak ruler when three of their state assemblymen, at the last minute, cancelled an audience with Sultan Nazrin at Istana Kinta, on Tuesday.
At a press conference on Friday, Perak Pas commissioner Razman Zakaria made a formal apology to the Sultan of Perak for failing to heed the ruler's summon on Tuesday.
Also present were Selama assemblyman Mohd Akmal and Kubu Gajah assemblyman Mohd Khalil Yahya.
"We humbly express our apology to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, for failing to have an audience with him on Dec 8 at 3pm.
"As such, Perak Pas will hand over a letter of apology on that matter," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim also said Pas will comply with Sultan Nazrin's decision in determining whether an assemblyman from the Islamic party can be considered for a state executive counsellor (exco) post.
"The appointment of the five exco would enable the Perak government and the state administration to function and run.
"Of course, there will be an increase in exco (appointments) to complete the administration of the state government. This we leave entirely to the wisdom of His Majesty.
"The question of whether a Pas assemblyman is appointed as an exco or not is the right of the Perak Sultan (to determine).
"Pas will comply with whatever (decision that) is good in the view of His Majesty. We are confident that the stability of the (state) government is the priority of His Majesty," he said.
The week-long political crisis involving the Perak Menteri Besar's post saw a resolution when Pas, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Umno agreed to maintain consensus in appointing Kota Tampan state assemblyman, Datuk Saarani Mohamad, as the new Menteri Besar.
The Perak political crisis was sparked by the resignation of former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and state executive councillors after the Chendriang state assemblyman lost a vote of confidence on Dec 4.
The Bersatu deputy president saw only 10 out of 59 assemblymen supporting him, with 48 voting against the motion, and one abstaining. - NST
