Pas Non Muslim Wing Chief Met Hadi On Racist Corruption Remark

PAS MUKTAMAR | Amid the outcry over PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly linking non-Muslims to “roots of corruption”, the party’s non-Muslim supporters’ wing (DHPP) said today that they understood the matter differently.
DHPP chief N Balasubramaniam said he personally met with Hadi a day after the controversial statement about non-Muslims and non-bumiputera which was made on Facebook on Aug 20.
“So actually what he (Hadi) said was, the ones who gave bribes were the rich and famous.
“After that, we understood his meaning and so we from DHPP did not raise this issue as a big issue,” he said.
Balasubramaniam (above) was speaking at a press conference during a DHPP gathering held in Sungai Petani, Kedah, ahead of the main party gathering tomorrow.
When it was pointed out that many parties were upset by Hadi's remarks, he said, “We must understand. Where PAS is ruling, there have been no racial issues.”

Echoing Balasubramaniam's view, DHPP Youth chief B Balendran also claimed Hadi's entire speech was taken out of context.
“He had a long text… and what he meant was only a small group of people.
“Maybe what was reported was not entirely accurate and needed to be read in full,” said Balendran.
Police investigation
Also at the DHPP gathering was PAS vice-president Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah who earlier delivered an opening address.
Hadi is now being investigated over his Facebook post on Aug 20 where he blamed Malays for being apathetic to voting, resulting in non-Malays and “liberals” gaining control of the country’s political power in the last general election.
He also said corruption stemmed from those who reaped profits through illegal means, alleging most of them were non-Muslims and non-bumiputera.
The police said on Sunday (Aug 28) that 28 police reports have been lodged against Hadi. - Mkini
