Pas Leader Raps Ustaz For Visiting Non Muslim House Of Worship
A senior PAS Ulama Council member has criticised a Muslim preacher for visiting a non-Muslim house of worship to showcase Islamic tolerance.
Without naming anyone, PAS Central Ulama Council committee member Mokhtar Senik said such actions were unnecessary, as Islam’s teachings on tolerance are already clear in the Quran.
“Did the ustaz not come across Quranic verses that serve as evidence of Islam being a religion of tolerance and justice?
“There is no need to go to temples or churches to prove this. You’ve studied tafsir, usul fiqh, and qawaid fiqh - when will you start practising?” he said in a social media post.
“Don’t entertain vague ‘play-safe’ sentiments. Reflect on Surah al-Kafirun,” he added.
While Mokhtar (above) did not refer to anyone directly, his remarks came amid criticisms of PAS Ulama Council secretary Nushi Mahfodz, who visited a Hindu temple in Semenyih, Selangor, on April 6.
Nushi, who is also the Semenyih assemblyperson, had posted photos of his visit to the Arulmigu Dewi Sri Karumariamman Alayam temple, saying it was to engage with the local Hindu community.
He said the visit was an opportunity to engage in dialogue and hear the concerns and hopes of local devotees, as well as plans by the temple for the community.

PAS’ Semenyih assemblyperson Nushi Mahfodz during a visit to the Arulmigu Dewi Sri Karumariamman Alayam temple“This is a crucial platform for building mutual understanding, far from prejudice or preconceived assumptions,” he said.
Mokhtar claimed such visits brought more harm than good.
“The harm is to the jamaah. If there’s any benefit, it’s only for the ustaz,” said Mokhtar, who recently earned a PhD from a university in Riau, Indonesia.
Backed by DAP MP, PAS leaders
Nushi’s visit has been defended by DAP’s Syahredzan Johan, who said it was part of the basic responsibility of any elected representative to serve all communities in their constituency.
PAS central committee member Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff also defended Nushi, saying the visit was a goodwill gesture and involved no religious rituals.

In a Facebook post today, Nushi described his visit as “full of wisdom,” stressing that no rituals were involved.
“In a multiracial society like ours, sometimes actions taken in the spirit of respect and unity can be misunderstood.
“But I see this as a blessing - it gives us the space to clarify Islam’s boundaries: that we can show respect without compromising our faith, and embrace diversity without being apologetic,” he said. - Mkini
