Pas Hints Kelantan Polls After Automatic Dissolution In June

Kelantan PAS has hinted that the state election may only be held after the legislative assembly is automatically dissolved when its term ends in June.
Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Abdullah said this is based on the current situation, which may replace initial plans to hold the state polls in March.
“At the beginning of our discussion, the three states namely Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu planned for the state elections to be held in March.
“However, due to several matters and arising issues, it has been postponed since Ramadan is around the corner and the ongoing SPM exam.
“So, personally, I think it’s better to wait until the Kelantan state assembly term expires on June 26. It would be considered then the Kelantan state assembly has automatically dissolved,” Amar said when met at his office in Kota Bharu today.
Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar AbdullahAs of now, the PAS vice-president said discussions on the state election have only been held among three states governed by PAS and do not involve any Pakatan Harapan states.
According to him, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari previously met with his Kelantan counterpart Ahmad Yakob and suggested that Kelantan dissolve its state assembly in June.
“But the Kelantan menteri besar did not give any feedback,” Amar said.
The states which need to hold elections this year are Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Selangor, and Terengganu.
Seat negotiations
On seat negotiations between PAS and Bersatu for the Kelantan state polls, he said both parties only held preliminary discussions.
“So far, we do not have the candidate list yet since it’s still early. Based on initial discussions, we may be adopting the same approach as GE15 (15th general election).
“The GE15 formula is that seats won by PAS were retained by the party, while seats won by Umno were given to Bersatu.
“However, there has not been a decision on this matter,” he added. - Mkini
