Pas Experienced Enough To Stand Firm Mp Says After Move By Bersatu Reps

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: An MP from PAS today voiced confidence that elected representatives from his party would not be swayed to support the current government, following the move by four MPs from Bersatu to declare their backing for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Pendang MP Awang Hashim said while PAS was briefly part of the government one term ago, its predominant role had been that of the opposition.
“It has become a norm for us when facing such situations related to allocations as elected representatives, especially as opposition representatives,” he told reporters at the Federal Court today.
Citing PAS’s experience in the political arena, he said this was why MPs from the Islamic party would remain “very firm or resolute” regardless of the current situation.
Bersatu’s Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli) had declared their support for the ruling government in a bid to secure allocations for their constituencies.
Iskandar Dzulkarnain and Suhaili were later suspended for four and six years, respectively, after Bersatu’s disciplinary board ruled that they had breached the party constitution.
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi meanwhile was reported as saying that more opposition MPs were expected to declare their support for Anwar.
On the move by the MPs from Bersatu, Awang said it was important to value the efforts of the party members and machinery leading to electoral victories.
“When we have won, and if this is how it is (to defect), it means we lack a sense of gratitude. Firstly, the party chose us as candidates when many others could have been chosen.
“Secondly, our machinery worked hard to ensure our victory. (Not receiving allocations) is a test of endurance that everyone must have.” - FMT
