Perlis Mb Should Resign For Defying Muhyiddin Says State Bersatu Chief
Abu Bakar Hamzah is upset with Shukri Ramli (right) for disregarding Muhyiddin Yassin’s proposal to appoint him as a Perlis executive councillor.PETALING JAYA: Perlis Bersatu chief Abu Bakar Hamzah has urged the state menteri besar Shukri Ramli to step down after he was not appointed as one of the state’s seven executive councillors.
The Kuala Perlis assemblyman claimed that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had proposed his name as one of the state’s seven exco but Shukri went against Muhyiddin’s orders, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“I’m upset that I was not appointed. The Bersatu president sent him a letter naming me for the position, but it was ignored,” Abu Bakar said after today’s swearing-in ceremony at Istana Arau, Perlis.
“I feel this shouldn’t have happened as it goes against the (Bersatu) president’s directive for the appointments to be discussed.”
Four PAS assemblymen and three Bersatu assemblymen took their oaths as exco in the new state government during the ceremony.
Under Shukri’s administration, all Perlis exco members have been appointed for one year in order to evaluate their performance.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Shukri refused to respond to Abu Bakar’s comments, stating that he will meet Muhyiddin to discuss the matter.
Abu Bakar had previously sparked controversy by revealing “internal turmoil” within PAS in Perlis. He alleged that it involved issues such as the delegation of tasks and other state administration matters.
Following his revelation, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang issued a warning against any acts of sabotage that could lead to the downfall of state governments led by Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Perlis is one of four states led by PN, with the others being Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah. - FMT
