Pas Could Quit Pn Over Hadi S Exclusion From Deal Says Analyst
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin (right) said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang should ask his party secretary-general about the agreement on the deputy prime minister’s post.PETALING JAYA: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s exclusion from a deal between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the deputy prime minister’s post could see the Islamic party quit the coalition, says a political analyst.
Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said the fact that Hadi did not know about the agreement showed there was a lack of unity within PN.
Last week, Hadi, the PN deputy chairman, said there was no official agreement between the coalition and Ismail on the DPM’s post for Bersatu.
This prompted PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to tell Hadi to ask PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan on the matter as Takiyuddin was the one who drafted the agreement.

“This is a big issue (Hadi being unaware of the agreement),” Azmi told FMT.
“It gives PAS a reason to distance itself from PN ahead of the next general election (GE15). Essentially, for PAS, it’s a ticket to ditching Bersatu.”
Azmi said he believes it would be more beneficial for PAS to contest GE15 on its own as it could use its own logo and would not have to share seats with Bersatu or any other PN component.
Another analyst, Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya, said PAS should have been kept in the loop as a key member of PN.
He said PN must now address the issues arising from the agreement as it could affect PAS’ decision to contest under the coalition in GE15.
Awang Azman said PAS grassroots were bound to be upset that Hadi had no knowledge of the agreement.
“I believe that at the end of the day, all PAS leaders will abide by whatever Hadi decides on the matter.
“Right now, Takiyuddin is trying to downplay the crisis by saying it is not an agreement that was signed but a memorandum of agreement, but I think this is confusing (for the grassroots).”
University Utara Malaysia analyst Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani said PAS needed to make its stand on the issue clear to its grassroots, including whether a deputy prime minister was needed.- FMT
