Govt Weaknesses More Destabilising Than Hadi S Writings Pas Tells Dap
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has come to party president Abdul Hadi Awang’s defence, describing DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke’s accusations against Hadi and PAS as immature and hasty.
This followed Loke’s statement yesterday condemning PAS for trying to drag DAP into the controversy over a royal addendum allowing former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to serve his remaining jail sentence at home.
Loke had also accused PAS of employing divisive and underhanded tactics to destabilise the government and take over Putrajaya.
However, Takiyuddin said Loke, who is also the transport minister, should instead address the government’s own weaknesses, which are more likely to bring down the government than Hadi’s writings.
“It would be more beneficial for Loke and DAP to focus on correcting the government’s oversteps, weaknesses, and internal conflicts, as these are more likely to bring down Putrajaya than the PAS president’s writings or efforts to seek pardons or reprieve for Najib, which DAP strongly opposes solely for power-related interests,” he said in a statement today.
‘Treason’
Yesterday, Hadi described the government as being “DAP-dominated” and accused the government of committing treason by supposedly betraying the concept of constitutional monarchy.
“This has exposed the true nature of the Pakatan Harapan government, dominated by DAP, which upholds the principles of secularism embedded in the party’s constitution and the statements of its leaders.
“What is happening now is a continuation of the colonial-era approach,” he wrote.
DAP secretary-general Anthony LokeLoke had rebutted Hadi by saying that DAP was neither involved in the royal pardon process nor the royal addendum. He also denounced Hadi for repeatedly blaming DAP for every issue, saying that it was irresponsible and malicious.
‘DAP never directly linked’
However, Takiyuddin said Hadi’s statement was about the status of the constitutional monarchy as well as the need to respect, obey, and defend it against those who challenge the institution.
He claimed that a careful reading of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement - which accused the “DAP-dominated” government of high treason - would show he did not link DAP to the issue, whether explicitly or implicitly.
“References to DAP are made only in the context of its dominant position within the government and how that position and the party’s image could influence or shape Putrajaya’s decisions.
“In the context of issues surrounding Najib’s case - and again, without referring to DAP - the PAS president criticises the government for the chaos that has ensued, particularly involving the royal addendum and a letter from the Pahang Palace on the same matter.
“The PAS president characterises the government’s failure to respect and comply with these as an act of betrayal against the institution of the constitutional monarchy and the noble religious and humanitarian objectives associated with it.
“The PAS president also criticises the government for actions that appear to challenge and manipulate this institution to cover up Putrajaya’s failures and weaknesses,” Takiyuddin said.
Therefore, Takiyuddin said Loke’s accusations against PAS were misplaced and instead exposed its “impulsive sentiments” towards PAS.
“This is not surprising, as such sentiments have long formed DAP's standard narrative against PAS for political purposes. Alongside this narrative, DAP is also well-known for its ‘victim mentality’ as a tactic to evade accountability for its actions.
“Moreover, the same mindset aims to justify arbitrary, ruthless, heartless, indifferent, or aggressive behaviour towards others, especially perceived adversaries,” he said. - Mkini
