Hsieh, otherwise known as Iris Hsieh or the “Nurse Goddess”, was found dead in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on October 22.
Hsieh’s manager, known as Chris, reportedly told local daily China Press that the parents could not come to Malaysia, but they had hired a representative to handle the posthumous affairs and had also hired bodyguards.
“I know many will find it hard to accept this reality, but I believe those who understand Hsieh’s parents will understand, it is not because the parents do not love her, rather they really love her, I have to make this clear, but out of consideration for health and safety issues,” he was quoted saying by China Press in a report published online today.
In a separate news report today, China Press said Hsieh’s body is currently still at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
China Press cited police and hospital sources as saying that an unknown individual had pretended to be Hsieh’s family and attempted to claim her body.
China Press reported that this imposter, whose surname differed from Hsieh’s, was driven away after being unable to sustain the pretence under questioning by police and hospital staff.
Separately, UK news agency BBC also cited Chris as saying that Hsieh’s family could not go to Malaysia as they have “severe disabilities”, but that they have hired legal representatives.
Hsieh’s case has been reclassified from a “sudden death” case to a murder case, with police’s investigation into her death still ongoing.
The cause of Hsieh’s death has yet to be determined, as it is pending post-mortem and toxicology results.
Malaysian rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, has been remanded for six days from November 5 to November 10 to assist in police’s investigations into Hsieh’s case.  - malaymail
