Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao campaigning in Kuala Kubu Baharu today. (Bernama pic)HULU SELANGOR: DAP’s Pang Sock Tao plans to introduce a van transportation service in Kuala Kubu Baharu to boost the constituency’s ecotourism industry if she is elected as its assemblyman.
While Kuala Kubu Baharu is served by the KTM Komuter and a federal road, the Pakatan Harapan candidate said insufficient parking was one of the issues that discouraged tourists from visiting local attractions, especially during the weekends.
Pang believes that the van service will enable tourists to easily access these attractions while offering job opportunities to some residents.
“This suggestion kills two birds with one stone: firstly, it will allow locals to be involved in the tourism sector, and secondly, it can help ferry tourists to tourism destinations,” she said after a walkabout in Kampung Pasir here.
Earlier, FMT reported that Kuala Kubu Baharu residents expressed hope for their new representative to revitalise Kuala Kubu Baharu’s tourism potential.
They called for greater promotion of tourism in the constituency, improvements to facilities, and streamlined approval processes in the relevant sectors.
One resident, Abdul Rahman Abdullah, 75, said areas like hot springs, dams, Orang Asli villages, Ampang Pechah, Millennium Lake Park, and historical galleries had been overlooked in terms of promotion.
Boosting the ecotourism sector was listed in the election manifestos of Pang and Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut.
They are in a four-cornered fight for the state seat against Hafizah Zainuddin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin. Polling is on May 11. - FMT
