Truck With Agong S Portrait Harapan Flags Causes Stir In Kkb
KKB BY-ELECTION | A truck bearing portraits of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Pakatan Harapan’s flag was spotted on the campaign trail in Kuala Kubu Baharu.
Perikatan Nasional is crying foul over the matter, describing it as a dirty campaign tactic.
Meanwhile, a Harapan media representative has reportedly denounced the truck as an act of sabotage.
Images of the truck, which was also decked out in Johor flags and called the Agong “Malaysia royal emperor”, circulated on social media today.
Malaysiakini’s checks later found the truck outside the Kuala Kubu Baharu police station.
Police later issued a statement saying it had arrested two men in their 60s, and have seized the truck.
However, they did not state whether the duo had any political affiliations.
In a statement earlier, Bersatu associate members wing chief Dr Chong Fat Full said that a police report has been lodged over the matter.
“We are not accusing anyone as long as the police investigation is not complete. We hope all sides respect the Agong and campaign morally and with integrity,” he said.
Chong also urged the Election Commission to take action during a press conference today.
Meanwhile, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said it was unbecoming to drag the royalty into an election campaign.
“I am sure that the Istana Negara and Prime Minister’s Office are also unaware of this activity.
“Don’t be so desperate to campaign to the point of dragging the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s name like this,” he said in a Facebook post.
Malaysiakini is attempting to contact Harapan representatives for comment.
Berita Harian reported an unnamed Harapan media officer as saying that the truck was an act of sabotage.
“This is sabotage. Harapan may release a statement after discussions with the leadership,” the media officer is quoted as saying. - Mkini
