Dap Not A Yes Man In Government Says Guan Eng

SHAH ALAM: Lim Guan Eng has asserted that DAP will not be a “yes-man” to any quarters while being part of the government, saying the party’s loyalty lies with its voters and the nation.
The DAP national chairman also reaffirmed the party’s continued allegiance to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He said this has not changed from when Lim Kit Siang led the party until today, with Loke Siew Fook at the helm.
“We are proud to have played a role in helping him (Anwar) become prime minister and we will continue to support him,” Lim said in his speech at DAP’s 18th national congress today.
“However, let me stress that DAP is not a ‘yes-man’ (in the government). DAP is only a ‘yes-man’ to our voters and the people of Malaysia.”
DAP and Anwar’s party, PKR, have been political partners since the formation of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat, which preceded Pakatan Harapan (PH).
It is now part of the Anwar-led unity government following the 2022 general election (GE15), which resulted in a hung parliament.
The coalition government – comprising PH, Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), other allies and independent MPs – was formed after no single party secured a majority.
While commending Anwar’s administration for implementing political and institutional reforms, Lim called for faster economic reforms to honour the trust of Pakatan Harapan supporters.
The former finance minister also warned that external factors, such as US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, could negatively impact Malaysia’s economy, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“We hope that additional financial assistance can be given to businesses affected by Trump’s tariffs as well as postpone or delay some financial policies that will impose extra monetary burdens.”
A total of 4,203 delegates are attending the DAP national congress at the IDCC Ideal Convention Centre here. They will cast their votes to elect 30 new members to the party’s central executive committee (CEC) today.
The newly-elected CEC will then select the party’s office-bearers for the 2025-2028 term. - FMT
