There are a lot of malicious software available online that are can be used for sending spam messages, stealing personal information, and committing identification theft fraud. Computer hackers are now using sophisticated measures and strategies like setting up their own bogus website that appeal to internet users so that once they enter the site, they will be enticed to download certain programs which are embedded by these malicious software.
Malware is a short-term used to refer to malware software that may include viruses and spywares. Viruses are programs that automatically replicated itself as soon as it detects a new storage device while spywares are programs that embeds itself into your computer without your consent. Often spywares are programs that monitor your computer like a "spy."
If your computer does not have any passable security software, then you can be prone to these attacks. However, there are steps that you can take that would allow you to minimize the risks that you can get from these malicious attacks. If you feel that your computer has been infected with malware or spyware:
1. Avoid performing any online transactions that would require you to input your username and passwords like online shopping, banking, and other online activities because certain malware programs act as keyloggers which records your every keystroke and sends it out online.
2. Update all your security software and keep it current. For maximum protection, your computer should have anti-virus and anti-spyware programs installed and do not disable your computer and router firewall.
3. Run a regular scan in your computer to detect any viruses and software that may have evaded your equipment. If any file is identified as a problem or a threat, delete it immediately.
4. If you feel that your computer is still infected, perform another scan using another antivirus software. There are a lot of legitimate sites that offer free virus scans for free, and that's also another option that you might want to consider. If all else fails, then you can simply call professional help to deal with the problem.
5. If you were able to solve the issue, think about what you might have done that caused the computer to be infected by the virus. Once you are able what might have caused it, take the necessary steps to avoid it in the future.
You will know that your computer is infected by malware if:
1. Your computer behaves strangely and responds very slowly. Malwares are programs that run at the background of the computer. They eat up your computer's memory which causes it to slow down.
2. Your computer would not shut down or restart. At this point, the computer has already altered the boot system of your computer which requires it from performing on / off functions.
3. You get a lot of pop-up advertisements. Since malwares and spywares communicate with its "homebase" when you are online, there are cases when you get too much pop-up advertisements when you go online. It's a proven malware problem if you are not online and you still get a lot of pop-up messages.
