14 Deviant Teachings Still Active In Malaysia Says Deputy Igp

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin PitchayKUALA LUMPUR: A total of 14 teachings that have been gazetted as deviant are still active in the country, with eight under monitoring by the authorities.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said a total of 154 deviant teachings have been gazetted from 1950 to the present.
Of these, 114 deviant teachings have been identified and are being closely monitored by the police Special Branch.
"Deviant teachings pose a threat to national security, in addition to issues of corruption involving public servants.
"A total of 14 deviant teachings have been detected as still active, while eight are under the authorities' observation.
"Among them are Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir, Dewan Perkasa Ekonomi Islam, Millah Abraham, Nur Mutiara Mutmainnah, and the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light," he said.
He was speaking during a lecture held as part of the annual programme at Masjid Saidina Ali, Bukit Sentosa, last night.
Meanwhile, commenting on the issue of corruption, Ayob Khan said the police would take firm action against corruption within its own ranks to restore public confidence in the force.
He added that corruption is a serious threat to the values of integrity, especially among public servants.
"Police will take firm action against corruption within its own members, as integrity is key to regaining the full trust of the public in the security forces," he said.
He also urged the public to make use of modern technology through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) system as a fast channel for reporting information.
"The community and police need to maintain a strong symbiotic relationship to ensure Malaysia remains a safe and harmonious country,." - NST
