Nowadays Over Zealous Parents Are Harassing Teachers On Whatsapp Groups

IT IS a real blessing to have caring parents who check on you. But even too much of a good thing can be bad, especially for the school teachers who have to fend off the occasional overzealous parents.
In a post on X, netizen Squallfy highlighted some of the parents from hell who continued to harass their student’s teachers on whatsapp.
Apparently, they would show snapshots of their kid’s homework in whatsapp groups. “Can you keep quiet and let your kid show their work in school tomorrow,” he said.
Squallfy added that if the teacher did not reply, the parent will start sending personal messages instead.
“Parents should have more sympathy. Would you be comfortable if people whatsapp you at 10pm asking this and that?” he said.
The post has since prompted several others to share their experience. Liyana said a mother once whatsapped her asking to deliver a food container that her standard five daughter forgot to bring home.

“Sometimes we can get angry with these over involved parents,” said Z, who pointed out a Hari Raya card making contest quite some time ago.

Apparently a standard one student made a card that was exceedingly beautiful, which was obviously done by the parent.
Kina suggested that such whatsapp groups be configured to broadcast only so that the other parents can focus on the teacher’s announcement and nothing else.

Another netizen added that instead of messaging in a public group, they could have just given a private message.
“Where the group is involved, we ask general stuff such as events or payment to be made,” said Reza 1998.
“They are making it like the teachers were like private tutors,” yn added.
Iman also pointed out that a long time ago, the kids were fine without these whatsapp groups.

Expanding further on Iman’s point, we would like to state that the kids were fine a long time ago when teachers threw feather dusters or heavy books at them.
Teachers nowadays would not even dare contemplate such a thing for fear of the many lawsuits they will receive from the parents.
But perhaps the most pertinent and unsurprisingly concise comment came from T who said, “Don’t be a teacher.”—Focus Malaysia
