No Specific Demands In Umno S Protest Note To Pkr Says Lokman
Umno’s protest note stating its objections to its former members joining other parties in the unity government does not outline any specific demands, said the party’s supreme council member Lokman Adam.
The note came on the back of Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, a former Umno man, announcing PKR’s acceptance of his membership application.
Affirming that the note does not contain detailed calls, Lokman told Malaysiakini that the note merely urged the safeguarding of harmony within the unity government.
“It’s just a protest note, as mentioned by the Umno secretary-general in his press conference, (with) no demands,” Lokman (above)said.
Earlier today, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that the Pakatan Harapan component party had received Umno’s protest note, adding that PKR’s central committee meeting will discuss the matter by the end of this month.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz"PKR's secretary-general has received and forwarded the letter to (our) leadership. InsyaAllah, we will discuss this at the central committee meeting (at the) end of this month, before Merdeka day," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
‘Stern warning’
On Aug 13, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party would deliver a protest note to leaders of parties in the unity government who were considering, or have already allowed, former Umno members into their fold.
Asyraf said the protest note represents a “stern warning” to other unity government components, cautioning that relationships within coalitions could be complicated if the matter is not dealt with adequately.
PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh confirmed with Malaysiakini on Aug 8 that Zafrul has been accepted as a PKR member.
She said the party had approved the former Umno man’s membership application during a central leadership committee meeting on July 26.
Zafrul also reportedly said he had applied for membership with the party’s Ampang division.
This triggered the division’s PKR chief, Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, to dismiss speculation that Zafrul would be the party’s next candidate for the Ampang parliamentary seat.
Zafrul tendered his resignation from Umno and announced his intention to join PKR on May 30.
Backlash from Umno leaders quickly followed, with some criticising Zafrul while warning PKR that such “poaching” could strain the ties between the two parties. - Mkini
