No One Has Parliamentary Majority To Be Pm Now Kit Siang

No one individual can claim they command the majority support of parliamentarians in the Dewan Rakyat to be prime minister now, said DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Lim said this after Umno, in their recently concluded annual general assembly, decided to sever ties with Bersatu, while Bersatu and PAS pledged to strengthen their cooperation in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
This came also after opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said Pakatan Harapan would move forward and focus on preparing for the next general election.

"We have reached an unprecedented political situation where there is no one person who can command the majority support of members of Parliament.
"Harapan should focus on the 15th general election (GE15) and we should get away from the numbers game as to who can win majority support in Parliament to become the prime minister before the next general election," he said.
Lim said he was glad that Anwar's stand is now for the Harapan coalition to move forward, to motivate their supporters, and focus on getting their election machinery ready to face the GE15 battlefield.
The Iskandar Puteri MP, who was speaking at an event in Skudai, Johor last night, said that currently, Muhyiddin Yassin is the first prime minister of Malaysia who does not command majority support in Parliament.
"This is why Parliament is suspended and an emergency declared to allegedly combat the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
He also accused Muhyiddin of ignoring the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s statement on Feb 24 that Parliament may convene during the emergency period.
"Since then, the cabinet has met six times but has been most negligent in not once considering the ruler’s advice.
"In fact, I would go so far as to say that Muhyiddin and his cabinet acted in utter disregard of the Rukun Negara on 'Loyalty to King and country'," said Lim.
In GE14, PAS won 18 out of 158 parliamentary seats it contested. Umno won 54 from the 121 seats it contested, making it the single party with most seats won.
However, after the election, Umno lost 15 seats after its MPs defected to its splinter party, Bersatu.
BN currently has 42 seats in Parliament, with Umno accounting for 38 seats. - Mkini
