No Need For Pm Candidate Motion In Pas Muktamar Says Tuan Ibrahim
PAS sees no need to table a motion naming its candidate for the 11th prime minister at the party’s 71st Muktamar next week, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.
He told Malaysiakini that it was more important to focus on the rising cost of living, the political landscape, and US tariffs on Malaysia.
“In my view, there is no need (for such a motion); this is not the right time to talk about who should become prime minister.
“It is better to strengthen Perikatan Nasional, focus on the upcoming Sabah state election and address issues affecting the people,” said Tuan Ibrahim (above).
ADSThe Kubang Kerian MP said this when asked if PAS should put forward such a motion at the upcoming muktamar following Bersatu’s decision to nominate its president Muhyiddin Yassin.
However, Bersatu’s endorsement of Muhyiddin at the close of its two-day eighth annual general meeting yesterday appeared to have struck a nerve with two other PAS leaders.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin YassinPAS and PN election director Sanusi Nor reportedly highlighted that Bersatu cannot make such vital decisions on its own without the consensus of other coalition partners.
“My view is that Bersatu should not be overly enthusiastic on its own,” Free Malaysia Today quoted the Kedah menteri besar as saying last night.
Decision defended
Expressing similar sentiments, the deputy director-general of PAS’ central election department, Annuar Musa, said that naming a prime ministerial candidate is not a priority for PN at this moment.
He stressed instead that efforts should focus on strengthening each party and building credible alliances.
He also said that the political reality shows that no single party has the strength to form a government on its own, thus necessitating cooperation with others.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, in retort, defended the party’s decision to name Muhyiddin.

Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail AzizIn a Facebook post today, Tun Faisal emphasised that the decision was made on Bersatu’s platform and not PN’s, adding that other parties in the opposition coalition are free to make similar moves.
The question of who should be PN’s prime ministerial candidate for the 16th general election has consistently heightened tensions among its component parties.
In November, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin refuted claims that Muhyiddin had been finalised as PN’s official choice, claiming that PAS is more suitable to lead the coalition with its track record in Parliament and “stronger” grassroots machinery. - Mkini
