No Interstate Travel Even In Cmco States Says Minister
Ismail Sabri Yaakob says special letters might be issued to parents of students in boarding schools so that they can cross state borders to send their children back to school.PETALING JAYA: The interstate travel ban is still on, even in states under the conditional movement control order (CMCO), senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
He said the status of the states under the various MCOs will be discussed by the National Security Council two days before they are to end on March 4.
“I will make the announcement two days before March 4,” he said during a press conference on the Covid-19 management in the country today.
Meanwhile, he said he would be discussing with the education ministry to issue special letters to parents of students in boarding schools, so they could cross state borders to send their children to school when they reopen this March.
Schools will reopen from March 1. Year One and Year Two pupils will be back to school on March 1 while those in Years Three to Six can return on March 8.
Secondary schools will be opened in two groups on April 4 and 5 according to the school calendar in respective states.
On another matter, he said the enhanced MCO at Kampung Teluk, Setiawan, Perak and Felda Triang 3, Bera, Pahang will end tomorrow. This follows a downward trend in positive Covid-19 cases reported in the localities.
On the arrests yesterday, Ismail said police arrested 321 individuals for various offences where 286 people were given compounds, 29 remanded and six given bail.
Among the offences were crossing state or district borders without permission (55), flouting physical distancing rules (49), failure to prepare material to record customers’ details (65), failure to wear a face mask (75), activities at entertainment outlets (30), and others (47).
Aside from that, he said 17 illegal migrants and four traffickers (tekong) were arrested under Op Benteng. Enforcement officers also seized 11 vehicles. - FMT
