No Coercion In Support Of Anwar Says Pkr Comms Chief
There were no elements of coercion behind PKR state grassroot leaders' open show of support for their president Anwar Ibrahim, according to party communications director Fahmi Fadzil (above)
Fahmi today said "No" when asked for comments on PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin’s claim that the recent pledges of support for Anwar could be driven by coercion or intimidation
"I feel at this time, this issue does not arise, because the leadership has made a decision - we will move on
"We will move forward and no longer look at this matter, because what the people hope for, what the people want is for Keadilan, as the biggest party in Pakatan Harapan, giving focus to the issues afflicting the rakyat," Fahmi said at a press conference after PKR's monthly Central Leadership Council (MPP) meeting today
"So at this moment, we take it that that matter has been resolved," he added.
Zuraida (above), on Friday, claimed that leaders who signed a pledge in favour of Anwar’s leadership might be coerced or intimidated
“I would like to state that those who signed the support pledge might not really be in support, but they may be motivated to do so because they felt intimidated, and did it because they were forced to,” she said
She had further questioned the rationale behind such a drive as Anwar had won uncontested as president in the last party elections
"It only raises a question that reflects on the instability of the president’s position,” she added
Zuraida said Anwar, as PKR president, should instruct for such pledges to stop, as it cemented the perception of a fissure within the party
The pledges of support come amid tensions between Anwar and Azmin over a sex video implicating the latter
Negeri Sembilan PKR yesterday became the latest state chapter to announce their support for Anwar, despite calls for an end to the move by Zuraida and PKR vice-president Tian Chua, who are both allies of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali. - Mkini
