Newly Crowned World Champ Tang Jie Ee Wei Reap Fruits Of Reconciliation After Brief Break Up

“CHAMPIONS! Chen Tang Jie & Toh Ee Wei strike gold to become Malaysia’s first-ever mixed doubles winners at the World Championships! ” screamed the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Facebook (FB) page.
“A priceless Merdeka gift for the nation and a historic breakthrough for Malaysia. Tahniah Chen-Toh! “
Indeed, the top national mixed doubles pair made it look so easy as they swept aside China’s world #1 Jiang Zhen Ban-Wei Ya Xin 21-15, 21-14 in 40 minutes enroute delivering Merdeka Day joy for Malaysia in the World Championships’ finals at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle, Paris yesterday (Aug 31).
But the Merdeka Day triumph would not have been realised if both Chen, 27, and Toh, 24, had not allowed cool heads to prevail by having re-united after a brief split during which both shuttlers played with different partners.
The duo briefly broke up in March due to differences and communication issues but reunited two months later.

Now national mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto can heave a sigh relief after having earlier conceded that the mix doubles is the only doubles discipline without a title this year.
But the 47-year-old former Indonesian who is renowned for his partnership with Lilyana Natsir has kept faith that the world #4 pair is technically sound and capable of matching the world’s best on condition that they “brush up their verbal chemistry” which was a key factor in their break-up.
Historic breakthrough foe Pearly-Thinaah
Meanwhile, top national women’s doubles pair of Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan – who coincidentally had also previously reconciled after having settled their on-court differences – was engaged in a duel that lasted 83 minutes with China’s world #1 pair of Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning before bowing out 14-21, 22-20, 17-21.
Despite the loss, the ranked world #2 pair made a historic breakthrough for Malaysia by being the first national women’s doubles pair that has reached this stage.
“Pearly & Thinaah made history by becoming the country’s first World Championships women’s doubles silver medallists!” cheered Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh in her FB page.
“Silver in medal but you remain our golden treasure.” – Focus Malaysia
