New Health Minister Aims To Emulate Predecessor S Cool Temperament

Newly-minted Health Minister Dr Adham Baba is expected to hit the ground running in light of the Covid-19 outbreak and is hoping to emulate his predecessor's calm and composed temperament
"We have to be cool like him," said the Umno lawmaker when quizzed on the performance of former health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad from Amanah
“As doctors, we have to keep calm,” he told Malaysiakini this evening
Aware of the monumental task ahead of him, Adham (above) pledged to do his best in tackling the Covid-19 issue in Malaysia
“I will do my best. I will liaise with the health director-general (Noor Hisham Abdullah) on this matter,” he added
Adham, who hails from Batu Pahat, Johor, graduated with an MBBS degree from Universiti Malaya in 1987
Before venturing into politics, he served with the Muar Hospital in Johor from 1987 to 1990. He also runs a chain of clinics in the state, including in Kulai, which is still operational
Adham would be assisted by two deputy ministers - Bersatu's Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali and GPS' Aaron Ago Dagang
In the last general election, the Tenggara MP defeated candidates from Bersatu and PAS to win the parliamentary seat

Prior to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin unveiling his cabinet lineup this evening, there were calls from various quarters, including Umno, to re-appoint Dzulkefly (photo) as the health minister
Former senator Khairul Azwan Harun believed that due to the current challenges posed by Covid-19, it would be best for a qualified person to helm the Health Ministry
“To address those challenges, it must be above partisanship and identity politics,” he had said
A similar call was made by Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa
Earlier, the Health Ministry announced that 18 new Covid-19 cases have been detected, bringing the total in Malaysia to 117
