Nepotism Claim Suit Health Minister Najib Discussing Potential Settlement
Dzulkefly Ahmad and Najib Abdul Razak are discussing a potential settlement to the Health Minister's RM5 million defamation suit against the former prime minister.
Najib's counsel Farhan Shafee confirmed that both parties were discussing the potential settlement linked to an allegation of nepotism involving Dzulkelfy's daughter.
"(We are) moving towards an amicable resolution. Parties have been in discussion for some time," Farhan told the media after the chamber proceedings.
The defendant's lawyer added that the civil court has set April 7 for case management to update on any potential settlement of the defamation suit.
Najib and plaintiff Dzulkefly (above, right) were in the public gallery while awaiting their lawyers who earlier had gone into judicial commissioner Arziah Apandi's chambers.
Kajang Prison officers were seen milling about in the courtroom as they earlier escorted Najib to the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex.
When met by the media, Dzulkefly's lawyer Stanley Sinnappen said parties were “discussing” when asked about the discussion on a potential settlement.

On Dec 31, 2021, Dzulkefly filed the defamation action in a personal capacity against Najib over the latter’s Facebook post uploaded on Aug 24, 2020, which purportedly contained the allegation concerning the 2019 appointment of Dzulkefly's daughter Nurul Iman to the board of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).
The Amanah vice-president is suing over Sinar Harian articles published in January 2019 titled “Junaidah nafi dilantik pengerusi AIM kerana kronisme” (Junaidah denies AIM chair appointment due to cronyism) and “Kronisme AIM: Pelantikan anak menteri tiada kaitan dengan KKM” (AIM cronyism: Appointment of minister’s daughter nothing to do with MOH).
KKM is the Bahasa Malaysia acronym for the Health Ministry, while Junaidah is AIM's chairperson Junaidah Kiting.
Former Umno president Najib, in his statement of defence, claimed that his online social posting about the issue of cronyism was not referring to Dzulkefly. - Mkini
